Why Every Party Needs a Great Party Punch

Every party deserves a selection of beverages that make guests feel festive and comfortable. This party punch is my go-to crowd-pleaser — a thirst-quencher that pairs effortlessly with a variety of party foods and moods. The best part? You can keep it kid-friendly and caffeine-free or spike it for a bubbly adult twist.

It’s quick to prepare, ready in minutes, and looks stunning in a punch bowl topped with creamy sorbet or sherbet. I first made this punch over a decade ago, and it’s been a staple at my gatherings ever since. The ingredients are easy to find, so there’s no need for a specialty store run.

Holiday Party Punch (Winter Version)

The original punch recipe is perfect for summer, but I wanted to create a version with a deep red hue for the holidays. Adding pomegranate juice achieved the gorgeous color and introduced a gentle tartness, which balances out the sweetness perfectly.

Key Ingredients for the Winter Version

  • Zesty ginger ale
  • Sweet-tart lemonade
  • Fizzy lemon-lime soda
  • Bright orange juice
  • Pomegranate juice (for that holiday vibe)

To carry the winter theme further, I added pomegranate arils for tiny ruby-like jewels and a surprising juicy crunch. (Pro tip: Let your guests know they’re there to avoid surprises!)

For a creamy and festive touch, I used raspberry sorbet, which foams gently as it melts, creating a velvety texture that floats atop the bubbly punch. Every sip is heaven — a balance of smooth sorbet and fizzy brightness. I guarantee one cup won’t be enough, so make the full batch!

Summer Rainbow Party Punch Version

This version is my original recipe and remains a crowd favorite. It’s fruity, fizzy, and topped with rainbow sherbet for a playful touch. It’s perfect for summer cookouts, bridal showers, brunches, or just about any sunny occasion. The vibrant orange juice base and creamy sherbet make it irresistible.

FAQs About Party Punch

Can Party Punch Be Made Last Minute?

Absolutely! The recipe uses frozen juice concentrates, so even if your sodas are at room temperature, the concentrates will chill everything down. Adding the sorbet or sherbet keeps it refreshingly cool.

Quick Chilling Tip

  • Use a cooler with layers of ice and sprinkle in salt (rock, kosher, or pickling salt works best) to lower the freezing point of the water.
  • Nestle your cans or bottles in the salted ice-water mixture, and they’ll chill quickly.

Can Party Punch Be Made Ahead of Time?

Yes, you can mix the liquids several hours ahead and store them in the fridge. Just wait to add the sorbet or sherbet until serving. Keep in mind that carbonated drinks lose fizz over time, so I recommend preparing the punch the morning of your event.

Winter Tip

In colder months, take advantage of nature! I stash my soda bottles and champagne outside for a couple of hours (just make sure it’s not Arctic tundra cold, lol).

Summer Tip

In the heat, use the salted ice bath method to quickly chill your drinks. This trick works wonders for all your party beverages.

Spiked Holiday Party Punch

If you’re looking to elevate the bubbly vibes, I highly recommend adding chilled sparkling winechampagne, or prosecco. It enhances the fizz without overpowering the punch. However, I’d avoid heavier spirits like rum or tequila, as they can overpower the light, fizzy flavors.

Tips for Presentation

Use a large, beautiful punch bowl to make the presentation pop. For photography, I used a smaller glass punch bowl (about 90 ounces), but my real party bowl is a massive ceramic watermelon bowl that holds 5 liters. It’s perfect for serving a crowd!

Why You’ll Love This Party Punch

This party punch is my ultimate go-to for every occasion — Christmas, New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, Super Bowl parties, summer cookouts, and more. It’s easy to make, customizable, and absolutely gorgeous on the table. Whether you stick to the kid-friendly version or spike it with bubbly, it’s guaranteed to impress your guests.

Make it, love it, and watch your party come to life!

  • 12 ounce can frozen lemonade concentrate
  • 1 pint rainbow or orange sherbet

Instructions

  • In a very large punch bowl, add all of the liquid ingredients, and stir well until the frozen juices have melted. Top the punch with small scoops of the sorbet or sherbet, adding plenty so each guest can add a scoop to their cup if desired. For the winter version, sprinkle pomegranate seeds over the punch, if using.

Notes

If adding pomegranate seeds to the punch, do let your guests know so they won’t be surprised by the crunch.
For a spiked version, cut the lemon-lime soda in half, and add a bottle of chilled sparkling wine, champagne, or prosecco. I personally don’t recommend spirits such as tequila or rum because, while delicious in their own way, they add distinct flavors that create a drink that may not be pleasing to all guests (unless you know the crowd well).
Note that for the winter version, it might be tempting to swap raspberry sorbet for strawberry, but, while the flavor would be just fine, strawberry sorbets often include chunks of strawberries, which may or may not work well with your presentation.
