Does Chime Work With Zelle?

Zelle is one of the most popular online payment apps in the US. It’s fast and quick and completes transactions within minutes. While Chime is an online company that provides digital bank accounts for its users. Chime users have both debit and credit Chime cards. These cards are issued in partnership with Visa. Users of both Zelle and Chime could be curious if the two works together for transactions. This article guides you on how both apps work and whether Chime works with Zelle.

However,  both accounts must be US bank accounts. How to use Zelle for payments and transactions

The basic requirement to use Zelle is a US phone number or an email address.  You can sign up with Zelle through the app or your bank’s website and mobile bank app. Check through the requirements of your bank to use Zelle with your mobile bank app.

What is Chime?

Chime says it is not a bank but a financial tech company. Though according to the company,  it serves what most physical banks do, the mission to make savings and checking accessible to Americans. Chime has no physical location, and all operations are done online. Users can use Chime through the website or by its mobile apps. Unlike physical banks with locations,  Chime does not charge fees to open an account on its app,  no minimum amount to deposit before having an account, and no service charge for savings on the app.

How does Chime work for transactions?

(I) To deposit into your Chime account: funds and money can be deposited into your Chime account at banks,  credit union locations, and retail locations. To do this, give your Chime account details, and the funds will be deposited into the account.

(II) To spend money from your Chime account: Use your Chime card where Visa is accepted. The Chime cards are two: debit and credit cards. The Chime cards are issued in partnership with Visa. You can check out purchases online and from transactions using your Chime card. To check out,  add your Chime card to your Apple Pay or Google Pay mobile wallet and make payment online.

Does Chime Work With Zelle?

The services Chime provides are similar to most physical banks with building locations, and Zelle works with physical banks in the US, but Chime is digital banking service. So does Chime work with Zelle? Yes, Chime can work with Zelle.

However, Chime does not have a feature where you can link to Zelle directly,  but on the Zelle app, you can link Chime as your bank. To do this, follow these steps:

(I)  To link your Chime card to Zelle.

  • Download and install both apps
  • Sign up for accounts in both apps
  • Next, open your Zelle app to link your Chime account to Zelle. On your Zelle app, select “Where do you bank?” Choose “Don’t see your bank? “
  • Next, put your Chime debit card details in the space provided for your bank details.
  • Create a password and click continue.

And that’s it. Your Chime account is linked to your Zelle account.

(II)  To send money from Zelle to Chime:

Having linked both accounts together,  you can now send money from Zelle to Chime. However,  unlike other banks supported by Zelle, which usually takes minutes to make payments and transactions, sending money to Chime through Zelle is not that fast,  and there won’t be instant delivery. It takes a few business days to see payments reflected in both accounts. Like other banks, Zelle does not charge extra fees to send money to Chime.
